Recent reports have described 63 cases of calcium tartrate tetrahydrate uroliths in dogs, raising questions about the role of choline bitartrate in diet formulations. Among the 33 dogs with available survey data, over half (18/33) had significant co-morbidities: renal, cardiac, or hepatic disease - that could result in altered urine chemistry. Breed, sex, and concurrent supplementation (e.g., multiple choline sources or high calcium intake) also appear to be contributing risk factors - suggesting that these dogs may have been predisposed to uroliths.

Choline bitartrate is widely used in both kibble and fresh food diets. While these stones remain exceedingly rare, the findings highlight a complex and multifactorial pathogenesis. To date, no cases have been reported in dogs consuming Wynwood diets. Nonetheless, we are closely monitoring emerging data and conducting proactive research to ensure our formulations remain aligned with the latest science.
