Your dog's chronic kidney disease cannot usually be reversed. But it can be managed. Nutrition, hydration and regular veterinary monitoring can all influence how the disease progresses.
Kidney disease can be advanced before a dog looks or acts sick. That is why the work starts the day you find out, not the day your dog starts seeming unwell.

The kidneys filter the blood, remove waste and help keep minerals like phosphorus in balance.

Why nutrition matters
Phosphorus control starts with food. Restricting dietary phosphorus helps reduce how much the kidneys must manage and is one of the most important nutritional strategies for dogs with chronic kidney disease.

Storing it
